Creating Opportunities Capital Campaign

Dear Friends,

HELP is seeking community support for a two-million-dollar capital campaign to renovate and expand our Lakewood facility on Sloane Avenue. This location includes Adult Day Services and the HELP Harvest Kitchen, which is part of the HELP Harvest Vocational Training Program.

The expansion and renovation will allow us to serve more individuals as we are outgrowing the physical space. This recent growth stems from the success of the HELP Harvest Program and the exposure generated by Susanna’s Café by HELP Harvest located at the Cleveland Foundation.

In 2021, HELP launched our “Growing our Mission” capital campaign for 1.7 million dollars for the HELP Harvest Greenhouse. We successfully closed the capital campaign in May of 2022 and opened the HELP Harvest Greenhouse. The HELP Harvest Greenhouse provides job skills training that allows individuals the opportunity to seek integrated community employment upon successful completion of the curriculum. The HELP Harvest Kitchen provides similar Vocational Programming and classroom instruction but for individuals who live on the west side of Cleveland.

The ongoing success of HELP’s Adults Day and Vocational Programs is a great benefit to our community. Through these programs, HELP has been able to support hundreds of individuals who have a wide range of disabilities in finding and succeeding in integrated community employment. Furthermore, providing opportunities for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities to enjoy their neighborhoods and work contributes to the overall health and well being of our community.

Please support our continuing mission by helping to fund this crucial expansion and renovation.

Gratefully,

Tamara S. Honkala

“My daughter Ashleigh loves going to HELP every day to spend her day with her friends and the staff. She enjoys going on her monthly activity outings, which include lunch, bowling, library, park/playground (weather permitting), and the Cleveland Museum of Art. Ashleigh likes going shopping for her cooking class. She also enjoys doing her arts and crafts activities.”

“My son, Muril, who has autism has attended the adult day program at HELP in Lakewood, Ohio for over a year. He is happy when he gets on the van and when he gets off the van. Field trips are his favorite activity. He loves reading the monthly calendar. I’m grateful Muril has a program like his to attend everyday.”

“After a child with a disability graduates high school, what’s next? Are they to sit around the house playing video games? Thank heavens that because of the superb work of HELP, our daughter is happily engaged in productive, appropriate activity in the real world each day. Our daughter refers to HELP Lakewood as ‘school’ because she is presented academics along with weekly community interactions and socialization skills. Every day we ask her, ‘how was school’ and her invariable answer is ‘Good!’

The staff there is helpful and friendly, communicates with home well, and most importantly, relates to our daughter as a person of worth. We appreciate their daily efforts. As parents, we are grateful for the opportunity to be part of the HELP Lakewood family.”
