The mission of the HELP Foundation, Inc., is to
ensure children and adults with mental retardation and developmental
disabilities have the homes, environments, and opportunities to be
valued members of the Northeast Ohio community. HELP Foundation manages
a number of programs throughout Cuyahoga, Geauga, Lake and Summit
Counties. Our programs are based on the philosophy that every child and
adult has the capacity to learn and grow. We believe that individuals
with MR/DD, like everyone else, want to exercise choice, develop
personal capacities, enjoy life, and contribute to the community.
The Foundation’s initial commitment was to children with MR/DD.
That dedication remains strong today, and it has been augmented by
additional, related commitments due to our recognition of the
complexity of needs associated the MR/DD population.
MR/DD is a lifelong challenge that does not end with childhood
and, therefore, services for adults have become a major priority for
the Foundation. Our adult facilities provide quality living
arrangements, daily care, and ongoing training in everyday life skills,
which we often take for granted but our consumers do not. Our adult
programs enable individuals to achieve their potential for independence
by helping them learn and practice skills such as cooking, washing
clothes, paying bills, money management, apartment maintenance, and
interacting with people in the community.
The diagnoses of mental retardation and developmental
disabilities are often accompanied by medical and emotional challenges.
In order to serve individuals effectively, it is necessary to address
all their needs in a comprehensive manner. As a result, our programs
include access to a variety of medical services and treatment for
emotional and behavioral problems.
